Haplorhini (/ h æ p l ə ˈ r aɪ n aɪ /), the haplorhines (Greek for "simple-nosed") or the "dry-nosed" primates is a suborder of primates containing the tarsiers and the simians (Simiiformes or anthropoids), as sister of the Strepsirrhini ("moist-nosed").
One exception to the rules for haplorhini is the tarsier. Tarsiers are primates that are native to Southeast Asia and are sometimes classified as haplorhini due to their dry noses and lack of a rhinarium.
Tarsius ("the classical case for haplorhinism") is not, how ever, typically haplorhine, but, rather, strep sirhine and platyrrhine nasally. Thus, the no tion of Strepsirhini versus Haplorhini is not, in the strict sense, valid (Hofer 1980).
