Jelena Lazarević ( Serbian Cyrillic: Јелена Лазаревић; 1365/1366 – 1443), also known, by marriages, as Jelena Balšić or Jelena Hranić or Jelena Kosača, was a medieval Serbian princess, daughter of Prince Lazar of Serbia and Princess Milica Nemanjić.
Jelena was born in 1407 as the daughter of Balša III of Zeta and Mara Thopia. She was named after her grandmother Jelena. [1] Jelena's lineage is traced back to the Balšić and Thopia noble families. In 1424, at the age of 17, Jelena married Stjepan Vukčić Kosača, a significant political figure of the time.
Already as a mature person, Jelena married the Zeta lord Đurađ II Stracimirović Balšić during 1386 at the latest. A year later, she had a son with Đurađ, the later ruler of Zeta, Balša III Balšić. In addition to Jelena and Teodora, she had another son of an unknown name who died when he was a young child.
Before this war Zeta was governed by Đurađ II Balšić. His wife Jelena Balšić was firmly opposed to his pro-Venetian policy and to his sales of Scutari, Drivast, and other towns together with islands on Skadar Lake to the Venetians in 1396.

JELENA Balšić je bila veliki ljubitelj knjige, i kao vrlo obrazovana želja, nazvana je Učena - podseća kruševački enciklopedista Slobodan Simonović.- Podigla je veći broj crkava, imala je svoju biblioteku. Njeno književno stvaralaštvo predstavljaju tri pisma sačuvana u Gorničkom zborniku, upućena Nikonu Jerusalimu oko 1440.godine.
