Joan Fontaine, as Dee Dee Dillwood, and Jimmy Stewart, as Marvin Payne, had starred in the 1948 film, You Gotta Stay Happy. The story was adapted for radio by Sanford H. Barnett and presented on the Lux Radio Theatre on January 17, 1949, with the same two stars.

You Gotta Stay Happy is consistently amusing and harmless fun. The best scenes are the early ones, in which Jimmy Stewart, an innocent bystander who just wants a good night's sleep in a hotel, is unwittingly placed in an increasingly compromising position when a woman, fleeing her newlywed husband, keeps running into him.

Synopsis. Indecisive heiress Dee Dee Dillwood is pushed into marrying her sixth fiancée, but unable to face the wedding night, she flees into the adjacent hotel room of commercial pilot Marvin Payne, who just wants to sleep. Somehow, she persuades him to take her to California.
