John Angelus or Johannes Angelos, also known as Good John, was a Byzantine prince who migrated to Hungary and ruled the Duchy of Syrmia and its surroundings from 1235 until 1254, as a vassal under king Béla IV of Hungary, his maternal relative.
Matilda was married (c. 1235) to John Angelos, Lord of Syrmia in the medieval Kingdom of Hungary. John was son of Byzantine Emperor Isaac II Angelos (d. 1204) and Princess Margaret of Hungary . John died before 1253, and Matilda became the Lady of Požega in medieval Požega County (central region in modern Slavonia ).
That son would be married (since 1253-1255) to Maria, daughter of John Angelos of Syrmia, and later (1269) would serve as camerlengo ("Camerarius Imperii Romani"), and also as governor of Albania (1273-1274). Sister of his wife Maria was Serbian queen Jelena (d. 1314). References
