Melk Abbey (German: Stift Melk) is a Benedictine abbey above the town of Melk, Lower Austria, on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube river, adjoining the Wachau valley. [1] The abbey contains the tomb of Saint Coloman of Stockerau and the remains of several members of the House of Babenberg , Austria's first ruling dynasty.

Melk abbey is one of the most impressive Baroque ensembles north of the Alps and plays an important role in the history of early Austria.
Melk abbey park is open daily, from April to October, between 9.00 am and 6.00 pm. Park admission is included in the ticket for the abbey visit. Guests who are interested only in the gardens can get tickets for the park only, without a visit of the abbey building.
The guided tour of Melk abbey starts in the Prelate’s Courtyard and takes the students up the Imperial Staircase to the abbey museum, the Marble Hall, the balcony and the library. The High Baroque abbey church, the most important room of the Benedictine monastery, can be visited individually without a guide.
