  1. Oct 20, 2020 · From flipbooks to colourful designs that appear only under black light, here are the world’s coolest passports.

    • Norway. Could this be the most elegant passport in the world? The latest design for the Norwegian passport features a minimalist and visually soothing cover with Norway’s coat of arms and the country’s name embossed in gold.
    • Finland. A moose strutting through the pages of the Finnish passport is one of the best things to greet travellers as they admire their passport stamps.
    • Sweden. Even at a glance, Sweden’s passport is easily one of the coolest passports in the world. Outfitted with a new look in 2012, Sweden’s passport features artworks of the country’s iconic landmarks and neighbourhoods, taken from a bird’s eye view.
    • Switzerland. Switzerland has the seventh most powerful passport in the world for its ease of travel, according to the Henley Passport Index 2020. The Swiss passport is written in the nation’s four official languages and thereby reflects the country’s linguistic diversity: German, French, Italian, Romansh (a Romance language spoken in the Swiss canton of Grisons), as well as English.
    • The Canadian passport. At first glance, the Canadian passport looks rather ordinary. It’s got an unusually-soft and pliable cover that is navy blue with the Royal Coat of Arms of Canada gold gilded on its front.
    • The Gabonese passport. Before the older version of the Gabonese passport is phased out by the much-less exciting (but still fun) biometric one, let’s acknowledge how cool the initial design was.
    • The Japanese passport. The Japanese passport is minimalistic. There is no complicated coats of arms to analyze because the only decorative aspect featured on the front cover is a shiny, golden flower.
    • The Swiss passport. The Swiss passport is truly representative of the Swiss culture. The cover is very thick , so it gives an impression of luxury. The front is bright red with a white cross in the top right corner, mirroring the flag almost perfectly.

    • NORWAY. Norway’s new passport shows off the Aurora. Norway’s passport, which was redesigned in 2014, is a celebration of Scandi minimalism. The inside pages depict Norway’s natural landscapes using clean lines and shades of teal, grey, and orange.
    • FINLAND. No more twiddling your thumbs in the customs line! Finland’s passport, redesigned in 2012, doubles as a flipbook. When you thumb through the document, an illustration of a moose at the bottom right hand corner appears to saunter across the page.
    • AUSTRALIA. Kangaroos, emus, platypuses: the Australian passport has them all. The illustrations inside pay tribute to the country’s distinctive biology.
    • CANADA. Canada’s new passport looks fairly ordinary in the light of day. But when you shine a blacklight on the inside pages, they transform into glowing illustrations of iconic Canadian scenes and symbols, from Niagara Falls to Technicolor maple leaves.
