    Day 1: Sight-Seeing and Exploring the Upper Town on Foot

    Day one of being in Quebec City is a lot to take in, especially in the winter. Odds are, you – like me – have never seen a fortified city (that could double as the ultimate holiday snowglobe) before in your life! So ease in slowly, get your bearings, and take it all in. After landing at 9 am, I checked into my hotel, Monsieur Jean, and started my first day strolling down Rue Saint Jean to grab coffee and a sandwich at a nearby incredibly cute cafe called Paillard.     Day Two: Montmorency Falls, Grand Marché, The Christmas Market, and a Castle Visit

    On day two, start off by venturing a bit further outside the city walls because there is a ton to see! You can take public transportation, rent a bike, or rent a carfor the morning (details at the bottom of this post). Then, after a bit of exploration, come back for a full-on dose of holiday cheer. I promise, it’s the BEST and most unique part about a December visit to Quebec (and I’m biased, obviously, because today involves the Christmas Market – duh!).

    Day Three: Toboggan Rides, Exploring Lower Town, Eating at a Monastery, and Ice Skating at Night

    After spending two days exploring Upper Town and beyond, the third and final day is all about squeezing in as much as possible before leaving (so sad, I know). Start out back at the Château Frontenac with a toboggan ride, then head down to Old Quebec’s Lower Town for an afternoon of exploring some of the city’s most picturesque streets.

    • Enjoy the Foodie Scene. One of the best ways to stay warm during winter in Quebec City is by having a hearty and delicious meal! Lucky for you Quebec has a really outstanding food scene, from Québécois cuisine (like poutine) to various types of quality international cuisine, we didn’t have one bad meal during our stay, here are a few of our favorites.
    • Warm up at a Bar. Exploring the best things to do in Quebec City in winter can require a few breaks where you might need to warm up from time to time. Especially if you get caught in a little bit of wet, cold weather!
    • Visit Quebec City’s German Christmas Market. Address: 5 magical locations – in the Jardins de l’Hôtel-de-Ville, on the Dufferin Terrace (near the Samuel de Champlain monument), on Sainte-Anne Street, at place d’Armes and at place d’Youville.
    • Christmas Magic Tour of Old Quebec. Address: Cicerone Tour Desk – Tourist Information Center 12, Sainte-Anne St. I already mentioned earlier in this post that a walking tour of Old Quebec is a great way to get your bearings of the area and learn all about Quebec City’s rich history.
    • Go skating at the Place D’Youville outdoor skating rink. Address: Place D’Youville, Rue Saint-Jean. A visit to Quebec City at Christmas time is not complete without going for a skate at Place D’Youville!
    • Visit the iconic Fairmont Chateau Frontenac. Address: 1 Rue des Carrières. A visit to Quebec City at Christmas time is definitely not complete without a visit to the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac!
