Rovinj is one of nine settlements officially designated as towns in Istria County in western Croatia. It has a humid subtropical climate ( Köppen: Cfa ), with an average temperature of 4.8 °C (40.6 °F) in January and 22.3 °C (72.1 °F) in July. The average annual temperature is 13.4 °C (56.1 °F).
Apr 21, 2024 · 21st April 2024. Rovinj is a charmingly picturesque town with narrow, cobbled streets, striking many visitors as being very Italianate in nature. It is famous for the St Euphemia Cathedral, the highest church tower in Istria at 61 metres high.
- Stroll along the Harbor. The small harbor of Rovinj is packed with fishing boats, small ferries, and batana boats (flat-bottomed boats used by the local fishermen).
- Wander the Old Town. In my opinion, this is the best thing to do in Rovinj. These narrow, winding streets are fun to stroll and a blast to photograph. Along the way, go shopping at the small boutiques, have a coffee or a drink in one of the cafes, and search for hidden alleyways and steps down to the water’s edge.
- Shop at the Farmer’s Market. Worth a quick look, this small market has vendors selling truffles, fresh fruits and vegetables, and even some souvenirs.
- Climb the Bell Tower at the Church of St. Euphemia. For the best view over Rovinj and the coast, climb the bell tower. First, it’s an uphill walk just to get to the Church of St. Euphemia, which can be very hot in the summer months.

It’s not just the olive trees, pasta dishes and pastel buildings — even the places have Italian names. (Rovinj’s Italian name is Rovigno .)
