Sønderborg (tysk: Sonderburg, sønderjysk: Synneborre / Synnebo) er en by og kommune i Sønderjylland med 28.277 indbyggere (2024) på begge sider af Alssund. Størstedelen af byen ligger på øen Als, der er forbundet med Sønderjylland af Kong Christian X's Bro og den nordligere Alssundbro.
History. Sønderborg was first established in 1256. [1] After Denmark surrendered control over Schleswig to Prussia and the Austrian Empire in 1864, the Schleswig island of Ærø was transferred from Augustenborg County to Svendborg County and the island remained Danish.
