"Absolute Power" is a Superman/Batman storyline written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Carlos Pacheco

Lightning Lord, Saturn Queen, and Cosmic King—the Legion of Super-Villains from the 31st century—eliminate members of the Justice League of America, except for young Superman and Batman, whom they raise as their own children. Batman and Superman are raised to be dictators of the world, eliminating all opposition and killing people who would otherwise be their friends. During a fight with Wonder Woman and the Freedom Fighters, as Uncle Sam has been given Hal Jordan's power ring, during which Batman is killed but Superman is able to kill Diana with her lasso, the timeline is thrown into chaos - warping and changing many events in history, and sending the two men travelling through alternate timelines.

In one alternate timeline, Superman and Batman are transported to modern-day Metropolis, which was ravaged by the Great Disaster - an apocalyptic event that was suppose to happen farther in the future. They ended up fighting against a group of intelligent apes together with Kamandi and his group. Afterwards they end up in another timeline, this time in modern-day Gotham City, which is protected by Western-themed heroes and where Lex Luthor is president. Superman and Batman are then killed by Jonah Hex and Scalphunter, though this doesn't kill them entirely- they are again thrown back across the timeline.
