Jan 5, 2021 · The idea for the story began for Lang after seeing NYC in 1924. Thea von Harbou who was married to Lang and collaborated on his screenplays wrote the novel based on their work on the screenplay for Metropolis. In a similar vein to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, von Harbou can be a little wordy and melodramatic to the contemporary male reader.
