Street musicians Tom and Jerry fight a bitter battle for the favors (and cash) of spectators. From Hawaiian sounds to the Bavarian "Schuhplattler" folk dance, all goes well and the people are enthused. Even when a piano breaks and a small piece of wood hits Jerry (eliciting another couple of sounds), the coins fly.

Tom is first seen wandering through an alley in search of food. He becomes desperate enough to look in the garbage for food, but the smell of the food disgusts him. Suddenly, a much more pleasant smell comes wafting in, coming from a hot dog stand passing by. He begins racing towards the stand, only for a piece of paper to stick to his foot, which he disregards. After running up to the stand, the paper flies off into the hands of the hot dog stand's owner, who discovers it to be a winning lottery ticket, much to Tom's annoyance. The man runs off in delight, giving his hat to Tom, essentially placing him in charge of the stand. Tom rushes up to the stand, only to find one hot dog left. He simply places it in a bun and tops it with every condiment available. However, Spike walks up and grabs the hot dog before Tom can eat it. Spike eats it instead, upsetting Tom. Spike pays Tom a nickel, jokingly saying "don't spend it all in one place!"

Angered, Tom then notices Jerry out in the street, playing bongos by jumping on them. Spike, impressed by Jerry's performance, decides to pay him. More people soon notice and proceed to give Jerry some money. Tom then notices a tambourinist walking past, and offers him the chance to run the hot dog stand in exchange for his tambourine, which he happily accepts. Tom then proceeds to play the tambourine out in the street, which the onlookers quickly notice, taking all of the money they had given to Jerry back. This angers Jerry greatly, who proceeds to interfere with Tom's act by turning the dial on the radio he had with him, causing it to start playing numerous different types of music, with Tom's outfit changing to match. Eventually, Jerry begins running on the dial, causing Tom to tire himself out.

Jerry then ups his bongo act by also playing the harmonica while juggling some fruit, and the crowd is delighted. Tom decides to up his game too, by putting on a beret and playing a set of bagpipes. When the crowd fails to notice him, he decides to take it to another level by getting even more instruments, becoming a "one-cat band." This gets the crowd's attention, much to Jerry's annoyance.

Jerry tries to stop Tom by throwing the fruit he was juggling at Tom, but they miss. Jerry tries to think of something else, then notices a crane moving a piano nearby. He rushes over to the crane, moves the piano over Tom (without him knowing), then releases the piano. Tom looks up and screams as the piano lands on top of him. He emerges from the rubble with the piano keys fused to his teeth. Jerry then arrives with a drumstick and plays a short melody on Tom's piano teeth. They both notice the crowd cheering and giving them money. They soon realize both of them could benefit from this, so Jerry continues playing music for the crowd using Tom's piano teeth as the episode ends.
