"The Big One" is a red rocket Sid Phillips ordered in the mail in Toy Story from ILL Eagle Fireworks Inc.
Its existence was first hinted at when, upon Sid returning from Pizza Planet with Woody, Buzz, and one of the aliens, he questioned Hannah Phillips, his sister, about whether his it's mailed yet, only for her to deny knowing one way or another, causing Sid to decide to ruin on her doll Janie as revenge.
When his package finally does arrive, Sid gleefully opens it to find a firework rocket called "The Big One". After marveling and reading its warning label, decides what unlucky toy will be launched with the firework. After initially choosing Woody who hides in a milkcrate to avoid him, Sid changes his mind when he steps on Buzz Lightyear's laser. After declaring that he always wanted to rocket space figures up, Sid duct tapes Buzz to the rocket and nearly has a chance to launch him, but a sudden rainstorm interrupts Sid's plan at the last minute. The next morning, Sid prepares a launching torture. When that is successed, he nearly lights the fuse before his toys, the Mutant Toys, led by Woody come to life and scare him to death. After that, Woody and Buzz use the rocket to catch up to the moving truck. He initially tried to use a match to light the rocket's wick, although a passing car had extinguished the match before Woody had a chance to light it, although Woody eventually used Buzz's helmet to focus the sunlight to the wick to light it. Although overjoyed at the success, Woody then realizes at the last second that he might have inadvertently endangered themselves and possibly the other toys due to the nature of rockets exploding upon being lit. However, when "The Big One" shoots towards the sky, Woody thinks his plan to get to Andy had failed stating they're gonna blow, but Buzz opens his wings and separates himself and Woody from the rocket mere seconds before it explodes into oblivion.
In Toy Story 2, Buzz mentions the rocket when he leads Rex, Hamm, Slinky Dog and Mr. Potato Head on a mission to rescue Woody from Al McWhiggin.
•When Woody says, "I'm the one who should be strapped to that rocket.", it referenced an earlier script, he was actually supposed to be strapped to the rocket.
•The Big One makes a cameo in the Disney attraction Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.
•In the Interactive Storybook version, after Woody and the Mutant Toys scare Sid, Buzz removes the rocket off His back.
•In Kingdom Hearts 3 The Big One appears as an attack called "Rocket Ruckus" where Sora, Woody and Buzz ride on it.
