Frankfurt is the largest city in the state of Hesse in the western part of Germany. Site. Frankfurt is located on both sides of the river Main, south-east of the Taunus mountain range. The southern part of the city contains the Frankfurt City Forest, Germany's largest city forest.
- The view. Frankfurt is a fairly unique city within Europe in geographic terms. Nestled in a shallow valley at the foot of the Taunus mountains and cut in two by the Main river, Frankfurt benefits not just from a pleasant climate (more on that later).

- Römerberg. Arguably Frankfurt’s most historic square, the Römerberg, has served as the city’s central marketplace since the Middle Ages. Even today, it remains a popular gathering place.
- Stadel Museum. The Städel Museum is a prestigious art museum renowned for its extensive collection spanning over 700 years of European art history. Established in 1815 by Johann Friedrich Städel, a businessman and banker, the museum offers a comprehensive art experience.
- Cathedral of St. Bartholomew. The city’s historic Altstadt (Old Town) is somewhere you should spend a bit of time exploring. Whilst there, be sure to check out The Cathedral of St. Bartholomew.
- Frankfurt Christmas Market. A visit to the Christmas Market is one of the best things to do in Frankfurt if you happen to be in the city during the run-up to Christmas.
- Römer & Römerberg – the top attraction in Frankfurt. The Römer is one top sightseeing attraction and should not be missing on any Frankfurt city trip.
- Paulskirche. With the Paulskirche (St. Paul’s church), another top thing to do is located in the immediate vicinity of the Römerberg. From 1848 to 1849, the delegates of the Frankfurt National Assembly, the first German national assembly, met in the Paulskirche.
- Frankfurt Skyline. Frankfurt is Germany’s only city with a real skyline. The imposing bank towers can be seen from a great distance and are a great photo motif.
- Kaiserdom St. Bartholomäus. The Kaiserdom St. Bartholomäus (Imperial cathedral of St. Bartholomew) (also known as “Kaiserdom zu Frankfurt am Main“; Website) catches the eye from afar and is another top sight in the city.
