Nov 3, 2020 · This chapter outlined progressivism in America (1860–1920) and took a closer look at progressive education (1910–1940). In it I presented 11 educators/scholars and 6 schools to give readers a sense of diversity of the progressive education movement.
The progressive era in education was part of a larger Progressive Movement, and extended from the 1890s to the 1930s. The era was notable for a dramatic expansion in the number of schools and students served, especially in the fast-growing metropolitan cities.
