Saint-Pierre is a municipality in the North Caribbean of Martinique. It is located north of Carbet and Fonds-Saint-Denis, west of Morne-Rouge, Ajoupa-Bouillon and Basse-Pointe and south of Macouba and Grand'Rivière and Prêcheur. Saint-Pierre owes its name to the eponymous apostle, the patron saint of its founder Pierre Belain d'Esnambuc.
Saint-Pierre is a city on the west coast of the island of Martinique, 30 km north of Fort-de-France. The vast majority of the habitat and therefore of the population (4,400 inhabitants) is concentrated along the coast on the Caribbean coast, but the amphitheater-like municipal territory extends to Mount Pelée and Culminates in 1395 m.

The modern, almost free-floating building is located north of Saint-Pierre on the left bank of the river in the immediate vicinity of the ruins of the old settlement of Périnelle. There you will find a permanent exhibition on the eruption of Mount Pelée volcano. Films on the subject of volcanoes in the Caribbean are shown in the film center.
Saint-Pierre was before the eruption described by many as the most beautiful city in the Caribbean! It was one of the cleanest and nicest cities in the whole world . Its fame and splendor even made people envious in Europe jealous of this new colonial bourgeoisie.
