Nov 4, 2016 · Federico II Gonzaga. Federico II Gonzaga (1500 – 1540) was ruler of Mantua, first as Marquis, later as Duke from 1519 until his death in 1540. He is the commissioner of Palazzo Te, his summer palace just outside Mantua designed and decorated by Giulio Romano. He was also celebrated by Ludovico Ariosto in his masterwork Orlando Furioso.
