Toyota (豊田市, Toyota-shi, pronounced [toꜜjota ɕi]), formerly known as Koromo, is a city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 October 2019, the city had an estimated population of 426,162 and a population density of 464 people per km 2. The total area was 918.32 square kilometres (354.57 sq mi).
In January 2023, Toyota CEO and President Akio Toyoda announced that he was stepping down and passing the position on to Koji Sato. Akio is the great-grandson of company founder Rizaburo Toyoda. Sato had previously run Lexus, Toyota's luxury car brand. The change is set to take effect on April 1, 2023.
Akio Toyoda was born May 3, 1956. He graduated from Keio University with a degree in law in April 1979, and then from Babson College in the United States with a master’s degree in business administration in 1982. He joined Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) in April 1984.
