The film does a good job showing the complete isolation and desolation of the land for miles and miles around Death Valley Junction. How did a sophisticate from NYC end up there? It is the middle of nowhere, yet there the Amargosa Opera House flourishes thanks to this amazing woman. You owe it to yourself to see this film.

Review by Maggie ★★★★★ 3 Watched in preparation for a manuscript exchange with a couple of friends from my MFA program, one of whom is writing a novel featuring Marta Becket. The movie itself isn’t five stars—the filmmaking is only so-so, and I couldn’t stand the 90s sad-girl soundtrack.
