Wood was a rising star within Seattle's flourishing underground scene – an up and coming rock singer who had been making a name for himself with his bands Malfunkshun and, later, Mother Love Bone.
When Wood’s girlfriend, Xana La Fuente, told them that he had fallen off the wagon in early 1990, they reportedly didn’t pay as much attention as they should have.
