Anthony Berkeley Cox was an English crime writer. He wrote under several pen-names, including Francis Iles, Anthony Berkeley Cox, and A. Monmouth Platts. One of the founders of The Detection Club. Cox was born in Watford and was educated at Sherborne School and University College London.

Anthony Ian Berkeley, November 15, 1964 in Trinidad and Tobago, d. July 15, 2001 in Beverly Hills, California) was a rapper and producer from the horrorcore rap band Gravediggaz. The eldest son of a minister, Poetic was born in Trinidad and raised in the Wyandanch section of Long Island, New York.
Anthony Berkeley lived for another 32 years after his last novel was published. During that time, he earned a considerable reputation as a crime reviewer, under the Iles name; he encouraged several younger writers, and was one of the first critics to recognise the qualities of Ruth Rendell and P.D. James.
