Ari grew up in Atlanta Georgia as the as the oldest of three sons. His father Romilos (Roy) Ioannides immigrated from Greece in 1953 to attend Georgia Tech. Roy met his future wife, Angela Chotas in the Church choir where she played the organ and was the principal soloist. Ari would eventually be elected to the Parish Council of that same church.
