Formerly known as York Park and Aurora Stadium, University of Tasmania was first opened in 1921 and has hosted first class Australian Football since 1923. The AFL moved fixtures there in 2001, and 2008 premier Hawthorn has also had home games at the venue.
Aurora Stadium is a multi purpose venue that has played host to a variety of events ranging from a Rugby World Cup match in 2003 to regular AFL fixtures involving the Hawthorn Football Club at their Tasmanian home away from home, A - League pre season games and other events such as the Crusty Demons and an Elton John Concert.
