May 12, 2024 · Background. In 1967, film producer Joseph E. Levine sold Embassy Pictures to Avco Corporation, an aviation equipment and financial services company, reincorporating it as " Avco Embassy Pictures Corporation ".
Television producer Norman Lear and his business partner Jerry Perenchio bought Avco Embassy Pictures Corporation in January 1982 and decided to drop the name "Avco" from the name to bring back the name Embassy Pictures and T.A.T. Communications Co. was renamed as Embassy Communications, Inc.
In 1967, Levine sold the company to Avco Corporation, an aviation equipment and financial services company, reincorporating it as "Avco Embassy Pictures Corporation". In 1976, Avco Embassy sold off their broadcasting division to Multimedia, Inc. and became Multimedia Entertainment.
Another company called Avco Embassy Television (which was sold to Norman Lear and Jerry Perenchio in 1982 and folded into Embassy Telecommunications) was originally responsible for television distribution of the Embassy Pictures film library. In addition, Avco Program Sales concentrated on its own in-house productions.
