Based on a book by João Alamy Filho, the Naves brothers' lawyer, it tells the story of Joaquim and Sebastião Naves, who were arrested during the Estado Novo dictatorship and after being tortured confessed to a crime they did not commit. It was entered into the 5th Moscow International Film Festival. [1]
Jan 10, 2024 · Case of the Naves Brothers informs viewers that the titular subjects were actually acquitted of murder at first in Araguary, and that the state later appealed and lost again. A third appeal took the case up to the state courts, housed in Minas Gerais’ capital, Belo Horizonte.
The brothers are tortured in order to confess a crime they did not commit while their wives are raped. After their relative and associate runs way, the Naves brothers inform the police of the incident, who end up arresting them under the accusation of murdering the missing person.
