Aileen Carol Wuornos (/ ˈ w ɔːr n oʊ s /; born Pittman; February 29, 1956 – October 9, 2002) was an American serial killer. In 1989–1990, while engaging in street prostitution along highways in Florida, she shot dead and robbed seven of her male clients.
Aileen Wournos was convicted of killing and robbing seven of her clients between 1989 and 1990 while working as a sex worker and showed now remorse for her crimes.
- She claimed that she killed in self-defense. Wuornos insisted that she killed all of her male victims in self-defense. But despite the horrors and repeated sexual abuse she experienced in childhood, she claimed that she did not hate all men.
