Doug Ellin was born on April 6, 1968 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City to June and Marvin. He is Jewish. Ellin was raised in Merrick on Long Island, and was educated at John F. KennedyHigh School in Bellmore. For college, he attended Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and then the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, California.
Ellin began his career writing and directing the short films "The Waiter" and "The Pitch," both in 1993.
