- Remove the Door. Unscrew the door's hinges from the door frame. Lay the door over four sawhorses. Tip. The door must be a solid wood door and have a broad horizontal section called a lock rail located around the height of the doorknob.
- Remove the Hardware. Unscrew the hinges from door and bag each hinge with its own screws. Place them aside for later use. Remove the door knob.
- Mark the Cut Point. With the straightedge and pencil, mark widthwise across the door to indicate the cut point. The cut must be on the lock rail, above the door knob.
- Cut the Door. Adjust the circular saw blade for the thickness of the door. Cut the door along the cut line. Purchase or make a cutting guide for the saw to keep the cut straight and accurate.
