  1. Entamoeba histolytica/Entamoeba dispar trophozoites stained with trichrome. Entamoeba histolytica/Entamoeba dispar trophozoites have a single nucleus, which have a centrally placed karyosome and uniformly distributed peripheral chromatin. This typical appearance of the nucleus is not always observed as some trophozoites can have nuclei with an ...

  2. Apr 17, 2023 · Entamoeba histolytica is a protozoan that causes intestinal amebiasis as well as extraintestinal manifestations. Although 90 percent of E. histolytica infections are asymptomatic, nearly 50 million people become symptomatic, with about 100,000 deaths yearly.[1] Amebic infections are more prevalent in countries with lower socioeconomic conditions.[2]

  3. Entamoeba dispar. In 1925, Brumpt formulated the theory that the difference between many asymptomatic amebic infections and those of individuals with amebic disease could be correlated with the existence of two distinct but morphologically identical species, namely, E. histolytica (which is capable of causing invasive disease) and E. dispar (which never causes disease).

  7. Feb 13, 2017 · Entamoeba histolytica occurs in the following forms, the trophozoites, precyst, cyst, metacyst, and metacystic trophozoite. The trophozoite is about 10–60 μm in size with a clear finely granular cytoplasm and a spherical nucleus that shows aggregation of chromatin beads at the nuclear membrane and a centrally located karyosome.
