A raga (IAST: rāga, IPA:; also raaga or ragam or raag; lit. ' colouring ' or ' tingeing ' or ' dyeing ') is a melodic framework for improvisation in Indian classical music akin to a melodic mode. Rāga is central to classical Indian music and a unique feature of the tradition: no equivalent concept exists in Western classical music.
Tabla (TUHB-luh)— a set of two drums used in North Indian music. The drums can be made of metal or wood and are covered with skins that can be tightened or loosened to tune the drums to the main notes of the raga. The player’s dominant hand plays the higher-pitched drum and the other hand plays the second drum.
