The guitarron is much louder than the average acoustic bass guitar because of the size of it's body. Years ago Ernie Ball designed an acoustic bass guitar (The earthwood bass) that had a large body and was based on the guitarron, but since then most manufacturers of acoustic bass guitars use smaller guitar sized bodies and you pretty much have to plug it in anyways to get any volume.
