The Lay of Thrym is the sixth studio album by Faroese folk metal band Týr. [1] The name of the album comes from one of the best known poems from the Poetic Edda, called "Þrymskviða", "The Lay of Thrym". The band revealed the name of the album along with its release date on their MySpace page. [5] The cover artwork is by Gyula Havancsák. [6]
They were soon joined by another former bandmate, bassist Gunnar H. Thomsen, expanding the duo into a trio. In 2001, guitarist Terji Skibenæs joined the band. They signed a worldwide deal with Austria's Napalm Records in early 2006, while signed to the Faroese record label Tutl .
