Playing hide and seek is a fun way to remind children that people come back, even when they go away for a short time. When children are able to choose the coming and going, that can help them feel more in control.
- Hide And Seek (Standard) It probably needs no introduction this one, but just for the record, here we go… One person is ‘on’. They stand somewhere and count to a specified number.
- Hide and Seek Team Up. This is another way that the standard game is often played. You start the same way, with one person counting and the others hiding.
- Sardines. This is kind of like hide n seek game in reverse. Just one child is hiding in this game, and all the others are seeking. That child hides whilst the others count with their eyes closed.
- Secret Wave. This is a fun variation of classic ‘hide and seek’. One child is the ‘seeker’, closes their eyes and counts. Everyone else is hiding. The seeker goes off to look for the others, and when they find anyone, that person will join them on the seeking team.
- Classic Hide and Seek. The traditional rules of Hide and Seek are simple. One child is the seeker and must count to 10 (or any number suitable for the child’s age) with eyes closed while the other children run and hide.
- Back to Home Base. In this common variation, the seeker counts at a “home base” (such as a wall) and then goes off to find the other players. They may choose to stay hidden until found, or they can run to the home base and touch it without being caught, which makes them “safe” from tagging.
- No Repeat Spots. Make the game slightly more challenging and teach kids to think creatively by telling them they can’t hide in the same place twice. If they’re caught in the same place twice, they’ll be “out.”
- Join the Seeker. In this version, as kids are found, they must join the seeker to help her find the other players. This means that by the end, all the players will be looking for the last child hiding, who is the winner and can be the seeker in the next round.
