In 1885, the City moved into the City Hall and County Building – and a giant boondoggle. Drafty and dysfunctional, the structure was deemed overcrowded and inadequate, and plans for a new city hall were begun almost immediately.
Nov 6, 2014 · She attended Central School (now City Hall) from kindergarten to 4th grade. Along the way she, with a group of involved young folks in 1965, took on City Hall with their demands for a Youth Center. Today that youth Center has grown into the Sausalito Parks and Rec Department.
Sausalito became home to musicians, dancers, writers, painters and sculptors; a tradition that continues today. In the 1960s the bohemian community attracted many hippies to the town. Houseboat communities became popular during that time, providing less expensive housing for artists and others.
