Mature cysts typically have 8 nuclei but may have as many as 16 or more. Entamoeba coli is the only Entamoeba species found in humans that has more than four nuclei in the cyst stage. The nuclei may be seen in unstained as well as stained specimens.

Entamoeba coli cyst with more than four nuclei. The presence of E.coli is not cause in and of itself to seek treatment as it is considered harmless. However, when a person becomes infected with this benign entamoeba, other pathogenic organisms may have been introduced as well, and these other pathogens might cause infection or illness.
Aug 23, 2023 · On initial microscopy, the cyst of Entamoeba coli typically has eight nuclei, while Entamoeba histolytica typically has four. The peripheral chromatin is coarse and irregularly clumped for Entamoeba coli and fine, evenly distributed for Entamoeba histolytica.

Entamoeba coli trophozoites contain a single nucleus with a prominent karyosome that usually is eccentric in location, distinguishing them from E. histolytica and E. dispar trophozoites, which have a centrally located karyosome.
Aug 23, 2023 · Entamoeba coli is one of many non-pathogenic protozoa found in humans. It is transmitted through fecal-oral contact, and the mature cyst can be found in contaminated water. Typically, these protozoa inhabit the large intestinal tract and can be identified in diagnostic stool specimens.
Trophozoites of Entamoeba coli usually measure 15 to 50 µm. The trophozoites possess a single nucleus with a characteristically large, eccentric karyosome and coarse, irregular peripheral chromatin. The cytoplasm is usually coarsely granular and vacuolated (often described as "dirty" cytoplasm).
The larger cysts of E. coli may possess as many as eight nuclei and can be identified by splinter-like chromatid bodies in their cytoplasm. Entamoeba polecki is comparable in size to E. histolytica, E. dispar and E. moshkovskii, but has a distinctive large karyosome and mononucleate cyst.
