Born Ingrid Lilian Thulin, a fisherman's child, in northern Sweden on January 27, 1926, she trained as a ballerina, then studied acting at Stockholm's Royal Dramatic Theatre. Ingrid worked in a number of Bergman's stage productions before moving to films in the late 40s with minor offerings in Jørund Smed (1948) and Son of the Sea (1949) .
