Kit is a cute nickname but I think it needs a longer name. Kit is a common name for baby animals so I just find it kind of cutesy and juvenile. I would suggest telling your partner that if he insists on Kit, you get to pick the longer name (so many options from Katherine to Kiana to Christina and I can suggest more if you want).
