Uncyclopedia is built on the same MediaWiki software that Wikipedia uses. However, during Fandom's (Wikia's) hosting of Uncyclopedia, Fandom extensively modified its version of MediaWiki version 1.19, making the Fandom Uncyclopedia site incompatible with later MediaWiki versions.

The Portuguese version of it had a lot of actual Wikipedia editors in it. It died down since some gave up on Wikipedia, so they would stop editing over Desciclopédia. That said, they made some very popular memes. That happened a long time ago.

For example: Uncyclopedia describes itself as a "content-free" encyclopedia. Uncyclopedia has two rules, "be funny and not just stupid," and "don't be a dick."
