His first wife, Elizabeth, died in 1599. With her he fathered Peter Oliver, who was also eminent in miniature painting. In 1602, he married Sara, daughter of the well-known portrait painter Marcus Gheeraerts the Elder (c. 1520 – c. 1590) and his wife Susannah de Critz.
Following her death, Oliver married a third time – to Elizabeth Harding (also Harden) (c.1589, d. 1628-40), the daughter of a court flautist. The marriage was to last until the end of Oliver’s life; two of their children survived childhood, James and Isaac.
In February 1606 she became the third wife of artist Isaac Oliver (d.1617). Elizabeth’s sister, Anne (1593-1672), married Oliver’s son by his first marriage, Peter Oliver (1589-1647). Peter’s mother, possibly another Elizabeth, died in 1599.

Isaac Oliver was a miniature painter. Oliver’s French Huguenot parents took him to England about 1568, where he studied painting and married the daughter of a then well-known portrait painter, Marcus Gheeraerts the Elder.
