May 10, 2019 · The guitar solo on “Peg” from Steely Dan’s 1977 album “Aja” was played by Jay Graydon. A bunch of other guitarists, all virtuosos and all studio vets, gave it a shot before Fagen and Becker gave the nod to Graydon’s take.
PEG - The Last Solo Bars The song - PEG - is written by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. Jay is explaining and showing how he played the full solo on the 4 DVD box set JAY GRAYDON ALL STARS - 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION.
The song's guitar solo was attempted by seven top studio session guitarists—including Robben Ford and recurring guitarist Larry Carlton—before Jay Graydon's version became the "keeper". He worked on the song for about six hours before the band was satisfied.
