Jun 29, 2013 · On 29th June 1509, just two months after the death of her son, Henry VII, and the accession of her grandson, Henry VIII, Lady Margaret Beaufort died at the age of sixty-six. Her good friend, John Fisher, Bishop of Rochester, attended the dying Margaret and was able to perform last rites.
A day after Henry VIII’s eighteenth birthday, Countess Margaret passed away, only two months after the death of her son. A powerful and independent woman, devoted mother and astute political maneuverer, Lady Margaret Beaufort had been a force to be reckoned with.
She died on 29th June 1509 at the Abbot of Westminster's house a few days after attending the coronation of her grandson Henry VIII. On 3rd July her body was moved from Cheyneygates (lodgings within the Abbot's House) to the Abbey Refectory where it lay surrounded by candles until the burial in the south aisle of Henry VII's chapel on 9th July.
