Lainey Janie Lewis is a music teacher and former student at William Penn Academy, a major recurring character in seasons 1-6 of The Goldbergs, a main character in Schooled, the best friend of Erica Goldberg and the ex-fiancée of Barry Goldberg. She is portrayed by A.J. Michalka.
In The Goldbergs, she is a recurring character who was introduced as Erica's best friend and later became Barry's crush, and then girlfriend. Her relationship with Barry established her friendships with Barry's friends, the JTP.

Season One
Lainey was first mentioned in The Goldbergs in "Daddy Daughter Day" by Erica, when talking to Murray about the drama they were then engaged in. She appears occasionally throughout the season as Erica's best friend, until she kisses Barry at his party in the season finale.
Season Two
During the second season, Lainey is not only Erica's best friend, but also becomes Barry's crush, which at first is unreturned. In "The Facts of Bleeping Life", Barry insists that he will win over Lainey and she walks away smiling, hinting at a relationship. In "Family Takes Care of Beverly", after Barry is hospitilized when trying to impress Lainey, she goes on a date with him in the hospital room.

Since 2013, Michalka has had a recurring role on the ABC sitcom The Goldbergs as Lainey Lewis, the best friend of main character Erica Goldberg and one-time girlfriend of Erica's brother, Barry.
