Latin Bridge (Serbo-Croatian: Latinska ćuprija, Латинска ћуприја named Principov most / Принципов мост – "Princip's Bridge" during the Yugoslav era) is an Ottoman-era bridge over the river Miljacka in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Latin Bridge witnessed a momentous event in 1914 when Gavrilo Princip, standing just meters away, assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie. This event, known as the Sarajevo Assassination, had global repercussions, sparking the beginning of World War I.

The northern end of the bridge was the site of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria by Gavrilo Princip in 1914, which began the July Crisis that ultimately led to the outbreak of World War I.
May 5, 2016 · Today, you can walk across the Latin Bridge, built in the 1550s by the Ottoman Empire, and see the plaque noting where Ferdinand and Sophie were killed on the corner of Franz Josef Street. Their assassination story is one of my favorites from history for the sheer amount of circumstance and implication of fate.

The bridge took its name from the neighborhood on the left bank of the Miljacka, where Sarajevo’s Catholics resided. From 1918 to 1993 the structure bore the name, Principov Most (bridge), after Gavrilo Princip, who was only a few meters from this bridge when he assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sofie.
