Aside from Creation, Patillo worked at times with Funkadelic and Martha & the Vandellas. In 1974, Patillo joined Santana, in time to record the album Borboletta. He left in 1975, but returned in late 1976 and recorded the Festival album. Afterwards, he launched a solo career on Word Records.
Leon came to prominence singing with the Latin rock and roll group, Santana. At the height of his pop career however, he left the group with a burning desire to satisfy those hungering hearts with music that would make a difference in their lives.
In addition, during his years with Santana (1973-76) he sang and played keyboards on the albums Borboletta (on which he also wrote Mirage) and Festival, which featured his song Try a Little Harder and co-wrote (with Santana and other members) on Let the Children Play, Reach Up and Let the Music Set You Free.
