Letters to God is a 2010 American Christian drama film directed by David Nixon and starring Robyn Lively, Jeffrey Johnson, Tanner Maguire, Michael Bolten and Bailee Madison. The story was written by Patrick Doughtie about his son Tyler, with the screenplay penned by Doughtie, Art D'Alessandro, Sandra Thrift and Cullen Douglas.

“Letters to God,” which opens April 9, was inspired by the true story of a boy in Tennessee who had cancer. His father, a member of a Southern Baptist church, wrote it. Doughtie began to think about ways he could tell Tyler’s story and also ways to bring attention to childhood cancer.
Tyler, a nine-year-old boy, is stricken with incurable brain cancer and begins to write letters to God. He turns his suffering into spiritual lessons for his widowed mother, his embittered adolescent brother, and a troubled postman.
Letters to God. Tyler writes a letter asking God to help him find the compass he has misplaced, but on his way to send it he meets others who could use some help and adds a series of postscripts. Includes a biography of the real Tyler and instructions on writing your own letter to God.
