Jerry Maren (born Gerard Marenghi; January 24, 1920 – May 24, 2018) was an American actor who played a Munchkin member of the Lollipop Guild in the 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film The Wizard of Oz.
The Lollipop Guild was a group of Munchkins in the Munchkin Country, who welcomed Dorothy Gale to Oz with song and dance upon her arrival, in the 1939 movie. Since then they have also appeared, and been referenced in other Oz-related sources.
A Munchkin is a native of the fictional Munchkin Country in the Oz books by American author L. Frank Baum. They first appear in the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) where they welcome Dorothy Gale to their city in Oz.
Gerlich is most notable for being in The Wizard of Oz, where he played the red member of the Lollipop Guild. Jerry Maren and Harry Doll were the other two members of the Lollipop Guild in the film. He was only 14 years old when he made his acting break in The Wizard of Oz, three years after arriving in the United States.
