Dr. Luigi Mastroianni Jr., 83 years old, an internationally recognized pioneer in reproductive biology and a former chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine, died on November 25, of cardiac failure after a series of successful valve replacements and repairs spanning the past 26 years.
Luigi Mastroianni, Jr. Luigi Mastroianni, Jr. (1925-2008) was an American gynecologist specializing in reproductive medicine. [1] [2] He played a significant role in the development of both effective contraception and assisted conception. [3] Mastroianni was born in 1925 in New Haven, Connecticut, where both of his parents worked as gynecologists.

Dec 7, 2008 · In addition to his daughter, Dr. Mastroianni is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elaine C. Pierson Mastroianni, also an obstetrician and gynecologist; sons John and Robert; seven grandchildren; and a sister.

Dr. Luigi Mastroianni, an internationally recognized pioneer in reproductive biology who began some of his groundbreaking research while at Yale, died on Nov. 25 at the age of 83. Mastroianni was the William Goodell Emeritus Professor and chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Pennyslvania.
