I was absolutely stunned by this deeply satisfying adaptation of 'Antony and Cleopatra', one of Shakespeare's best-loved Roman plays, although it is also one of the most difficult to bring to life. Both Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo complemented each other incredibly well and delivered strong and convincing performances.

Unlike other tragic figures in Shakespeare’s canon, everything Antony does is driven by his adoration of Cleopatra. Fiennes takes us on a vivid journey from a man drunk on love to one desperate not to lose everything he holds dear.

Ralph Fiennes plays the great military general Mark Antony, one of the three rulers of the Roman Empire. We meet him in Egypt, living with Queen Cleopatra, played by Sophie Okonedo, the two enjoying a life of expensive sensual indulgence.
