He was born to Stephen Hopkins and his wife, Elizabeth, sometime between the boarding and arrival dates of September 6 and November 9, 1620.

When Oceanus Hopkins was born in 1620, in Atlantic Ocean, his father, Stephen Hopkins, was 39 and his mother, Elizabeth Fisher, was 25. He died in 1621, in Plymouth Colony, British Colonial America, at the age of 1, and was buried in Plymouth Colony, British Colonial America.
Stephen Hopkins was one of the most adventurous of the passengers aboard the Mayflower. He traveled with his second wife, Elizabeth (Fisher) Hopkins, and children Constanta, Giles and Damaris. Elizabeth was pregnant during the voyage and gave birth to a son Oceanus while at sea.
