It’s summer 1942 and fierce battles rage around Stalingrad. No end to the war can be foreseen for at least 3 years and Lieutenant Ogarkov, having failed to deliver a field operation report, is facing the death sentence.
But war is war… Dzhurabaev is killed, and Ogarkov continues on his way to Victory, which eventually leads him to Berlin. The film is based on a story by Emmanuil Kazakevich “Two in the Steppe” and the war diaries of Konstantin Simonov.
